As one of our last stops in Chile, Adam, Antonio, and I enjoyed lunch Martin and Fernando from the University of Chile geology department. It was great catching up with Martin, who is a UM alum, receiveing his PhD from our department in 2007. Martin is now a professor at the University of Chile working in economic geology.
With our free time this morning, those of us who got up, visited the Museum of Memory and Human Rights. For some the events documented by the exhibits were times and news stories of which we have memories. For others it brings to life important events in human history from school lessons.
Chile makes a lot of things out of copper. Even the handrails in Chile’s subway system are copper.
Some folks are up early to join us for breakfast empanadas, and to share the fun things they found to do last night. Our plan is to head across town to the Museum of Memory next.
We are all out enjoying ourselves at various locations across Santiago. Some of us, however, are calling it an early night, so we can recover from the horseback trip today and have some time to spend exploring Santiago tomorrow.
We need to leave the hotel at 4pm — again, that is 4pm to any trip participants reading this! — in order to gas-up and return the rental cars, and be at the airport on-time. Any non-trip participants should feel free to remind their friends or family who are on the trip to be in the lobby, ready to leave, at 4pm! Call them, send them texts, email them, Skype or FaceTime them, just tell them 4pm and no later!
